Microsoft published Windows 11 version 24H2 in October 2024, which included a lengthy list of known issues and upgrade obstacles. Microsoft has been gradually fixing those issues and removing those restrictions one at a time ever since. In order to allow more Windows 10 and Windows 11 users to update to the most recent version before Windows 10 support ends, the firm is now removing another upgrade block.
The block in issue impacts PCs using Easy Anti-Cheat, an anti-cheat program built into a lot of well-known games, like Fortnite and PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. The official documentation states that the compatibility problem is limited to systems running the vPro platform and Intel's Alder Lake+ processors that have Easy Anti-Cheat drivers that were released before April 2024. Affected computers encounter the "MEMORY_MANAGEMENT" problem and crash to the blue screen of death (now black screen of death). However, games that do not use the device's old drivers do not cause blue screens of death.
Microsoft has lifted the upgrade block that was put in place on September 30, 2024, almost ten months later. Affected systems can now finally install Windows 11 version 24H2 through Windows Update as of July 24, 2025. Keep in mind that games that use an incompatible version of Easy Anti-Cheat may still prompt you to update them using Windows Update.
Easy Anti-Cheat compatibility problems are limited to Windows 11 version 24H2; therefore, even with out-of-date drivers, there shouldn't be any crashes if you're running Windows 10 or an earlier version of Windows 11.
Although Windows 11 version 25H2 will be available in a few months, there are still a number of upgrade blocks available for its predecessor. Drivers for Intel Smart Sound Technology are incompatible, camera-using programs hang, PCs with Dirac Audio have audio output losses, and there are problems with the sprotect.sys driver.
