Regular releases of Windows 11 Insider Preview builds introduce new features and improvements. Even while Microsoft uses specialized blog articles to promote the majority of its new features, other enhancements are concealed or dormant since the corporation isn't yet ready to reveal them. The soon-to-be updated battery indicator, which is now under development, is a recent illustration of this.
The well-known Windows fan @phantomofearth on X (previously Twitter) has now revealed some information regarding Microsoft's most recent, little-known Windows initiatives. The company appears to be working on AI-powered desktop backdrops once more. The dynamic background and the dialog box stating that "Your background will automatically update based on your selections" are referenced in strings found inside recent Windows 11 preview releases.
Even while the Insider builds have these references, they have not yet been built, making it impossible to enable and test them—at least not yet. This implies that the variables that will affect the desktop background's dynamic quality are similarly unknown. The "selections" suggest that in order to utilize this function, users will need to provide at least some input. But it would be fascinating to see Windows use additional local indicators that are already on your computer, like information about your digital habits and tastes, to determine what kind of AI-generated or AI-rotated dynamic background would look best for you.
We have previously seen indications that Microsoft is progressing in this area. WallpaperMotion, Parallax Background, and Depth effects were mentioned back in March 2023, but they were also quite challenging to enable and test. You would assume that Microsoft would be prepared to ride this AI wave by releasing AI-powered dynamic desktop backdrops soon, but because the corporation has been working on this project for at least two years, it is hard to forecast when they will be widely available.
