Microsoft unveiled the Surface Laptop and Surface Pro, two new Surface laptops for corporate users that are equipped with Intel's newest Core Ultra 200 Series CPUs, in late January 2025. A Surface Laptop configuration with 5G connectivity was promised by Microsoft back then, and today the company is finally delivering on one of the most desired features from business clients.
Now officially known as the Surface Laptop 5G. With the exception of 5G support with Nano SIM and eSIM compatibility, this 13.8-inch laptop is identical to its non-cellular siblings. But according to Microsoft's announcement page, adding 5G to a laptop involves more than just installing a modem. With six precisely positioned antennae, Microsoft had to meticulously design a so-called "dynamic antenna system" that adjusts to the surroundings and guarantees the optimum reception.
To guarantee a continuous connection, the laptop can smoothly switch between Wi-Fi and a cellular connection. Also, it can work as a mobile hotspot for other devices in areas where Wi-Fi is not available.
The Surface Laptop 5G's antennas are positioned higher for less interference than those of other laptops, which have them close to the bottom of the device. Additionally, Microsoft created a new case material called multi-layered laminate that maintains the durability, light weight, and high-end feel of Surface products while permitting radio signals to flow through without compromising performance.
The Surface Laptop 5G, like the other contemporary Surface devices, is a Copilot+ PC with Intel's NPU, which makes possible a number of AI-powered functions and experiences, including Click to Do, Recall, and more.
On August 26, 2025, the Surface Laptop 5G (Core Ultra 5, 256GB SSD, 16GB RAM) will go on sale for $1,799. Microsoft is introducing the newly revealed 13-inch Surface Laptop and 12-inch Surface Pro for business users in addition to the Surface Laptop 5G.
