Microsoft published Patch Tuesday upgrades for Windows 10 and Windows 11 about a week ago. These upgrades resolved a number of problems in both operating systems and added some improvements to Windows 11. But it appears that Microsoft might have unintentionally added a new problem to Windows 10.
Over the weekend, a number of Windows 10 users took to Reddit to draw attention to a bug that prevents the operating system's emoji search window from functioning properly. This is the user interface that appears when you use the Win +. keyboard shortcut, for those who are not familiar with it. When you type in a phrase, the search experience does not provide search results. Instead, if you attempt to search for an emoji, it consistently shows the message "We couldn't find this one."
According to sources, the fault appears to be being caused by the most recent Patch Tuesday update, KB5062554, which was released last week. The emoji search panel functionality was operating flawlessly before Patch Tuesday, however it broke right away after installation, according to our own testing and Reddit user reports.
Although the reason of this issue is unknown, it seems to be pervasive and affects all users of this service. It's interesting that Microsoft hasn't yet addressed the issue; it doesn't list it in its Windows Release Health dashboard for Windows 10.
Windows 10 users who are rejecting Windows 11 and wish to continue using their existing operating system, even if it is not supported, will probably be concerned about unforeseen issues like these. However, Microsoft is providing Windows 10 users with a year of additional updates, both for free and at a cost, so for the time being, it could be time to take it into consideration.
But for now, all we can do is wait for Microsoft to admit the problem and give us an estimated time of arrival for a solution. Although it arguably doesn't qualify as one, the business occasionally distributes out-of-band updates for serious issues instead of waiting for Patch Tuesday.
