A surprise element of WhatsApp's guest conversations feature

For a future version, WhatsApp is working on a new feature called guest chats that would let users talk to individuals without having an account. The recipient can access the conversation without installing the app thanks to the new feature, which involves sending them a direct link. One important but not the only restriction is that these guest chats will only allow one-on-one messages rather than group discussions.

The functionality is still in development and isn't even accessible to beta testers yet, according to WABetaInfo. It is anticipated that guests will engage with the chat through WhatsApp Web, which enables the device to create a private, encrypted chat session without installing the app by utilizing WhatsApp's web services.

Additionally, Meta is developing a new feature that will enable WhatsApp users to have third-party chats with contacts who are using other apps, albeit it is not yet available. That is not the case with this new guest chat function, which is created and run solely inside WhatsApp's own ecosystem. Meta will undoubtedly be hoping that this feature will persuade more individuals who haven't signed up yet to use the app.

As you would anticipate when speaking with registered members, messages sent in guest chats will be encrypted from beginning to finish to provide further protection. We should learn more about the encryption and functionality's technological specifics closer to debut. However, we are aware that guest chats will have a number of serious restrictions, such as the inability to allow voice calls, video calls, media files, or voice messages.

It will be fascinating to observe if these restrictions actually make consumers more irritated and discourage them from using the service or if they encourage them to register. After the feature launches, Meta should disclose user growth numbers that reflect this.
