A much-needed functionality is being added to Microsoft's amazing Start menu replacement.

In my opinion, the Start menu in its standard format is long gone (my colleague Usama Jawad recently expressed this opinion in his editorial). I completely replaced it with Microsoft's PowerToys Command Palette, and I never looked back. With the aid of extra modules, this robust search-like launcher can perform commands, locate files, open apps, and much more. Command Palette will be much more helpful in the next PowerToys upgrade.

According to PowerToys' GitHub repository, the upcoming version 0.93 will include a much-needed upgrade to the Command Palette's program search. You will be able to pin your preferred apps, much like you can do with the taskbar or Start menu, in addition to seeing the complete list of applications that are available. Additionally, when you activate the launcher, your preferred apps ought to appear on the home screen.

Pressing Win + Alt + Space (or your own custom key sequence that may be defined in the module's settings) and then choosing "All programs," which is displayed first by default, will open the list of all apps in the Command Palette, in case you are unfamiliar with it. After scanning every app that is available, Command Palette displays them in a list along with a few other details like type or path.

The number of apps that Command Palette will allow you to pin and the anticipated release date of version 0.93 are still unknown. A minor bug-fixing update will be released soon after the previous update, version 0.92, which was released at the beginning of this month. Version 0.93 is likely to be released in August, given that PowerToys receives feature improvements every month.

We strongly advise you to try Command Palette if you haven't already, and it merits a full series of articles outlining its features. It is quick, strong, adaptable, and expandable (Microsoft need to include it and several other utilities with Windows). It's part of the PowerToys software, which you can download from GitHub or the Microsoft Store.
