Here's how to enable uBlock Origin in Chrome again.

uBlock Origin and other Manifest V2-based extensions were eliminated by Google with the release of Chrome 138 (Microsoft is doing the same with Edge). All MV2 extensions have now been permanently disabled, and there isn't a way to enable them again. The good news is that with a few minor browser adjustments, you can still utilize uBlock Origin and other MV2 extensions.
Follow the instructions if you have uBlock Origin installed on Chrome. Get the extension from the Chrome Web Store using the instructions in this article if it isn't already installed (Method 1). Next, take the following action:
  1. Navigate to chrome://flags after launching Google Chrome.
  2. Locate and enable the "Temporarily unexpire M137 flags" flag. Use the "Temporarily unexpired M138 flags" flag after Chrome 139 is released.
  3. Restart the web browser.
  4. Return to the chrome://flags page and turn off the flags listed below:
  5. Extension Manifest V2: Warning Stage of Deprecation
  6. Extension Extension of Manifest V2 Deprecation Disabled Stage Deprecation Unsupported Stage for Manifest V2:
  7. Turn on "Allow legacy extension manifest versions." Tip: To locate the required extensions more quickly, type "MV2" into the page's search box. Your flags should be set as follows:
  8. Restart the web browser.
Now, uBlock Origin and all of your other Manifest V2 extensions will be functional again. It's also important to note that you can use Developer Mode to run uBlock Origin after adjusting the flags above. Google will eliminate the flags with Chrome 140, though, and changing your Chrome shortcut is the only way to get Manifest V2-based extensions back.

Although users can still get uBlock Origin to function, it will soon stop operating completely and cannot be fixed. Users will therefore need to either migrate to browsers that still support Manifest V2 or convert to blockers based on Manifest V3, like uBlock Lite. For instance, Firefox, Opera, and Brave do not currently have any plans to stop using those extensions.
