A brand-new transatlantic undersea cable network that would link Spain, the Azores, Bermuda, and the United States. In reference to the cable system's landing sites in warmer climates, the word "sol" means "sun" in Spanish and Portuguese. Sol completes our unique transatlantic resiliency investment, together with the Nuvem underwater cable. The two systems connect terrestrially in the U.S. and Iberia, as well as in Bermuda and the Azores.
Once operational, the Sol cable—which will be produced in the United States—will increase capacity and dependability for our expanding global network of 42 Google Cloud regions, assisting in meeting the rising demand from customers for Google Cloud and AI services in the United States, Europe, and beyond.
The U.S. anchor for the Sol cable will be Palm Coast, Florida. In order to install the connection and create a new connectivity hub in the Sunshine State, we will collaborate with DC BLOX. Additionally, a terrestrial route connecting Palm Coast to our cloud region in South Carolina will be developed.
Sol will be the only fiber-optic cable between Florida and Europe that is currently in operation when it is finished. In order to further integrate the Google Cloud region in Madrid into our global network, we will collaborate with Telxius in Spain to supply the equipment required to land the Sol cable in Santander.
