Yesterday, Microsoft released the Windows 10 and Windows 11 Patch Tuesday upgrades. Security patches make up the majority of the release for the former, but there are also a number of other improvements and fixes for the latter. One of those has to do with a bothersome Windows Firewall problem that just surfaced.
A week or two ago, Microsoft admitted that Windows Firewall with Advanced Security was logging an error event due to a bug in the June 2025 non-security beta update for Windows 11 (KB5060829). However, the business assured consumers that there is no need for concern, since this specific log only relates to an upcoming feature that has not yet been fully created and does not point to any issues with Windows Firewall. IT administrators can either ignore this issue or filter it out of Event Viewer; they don't need to do anything about it.
The Windows Firewall issue has been fixed, according to Microsoft, with the most recent Patch Tuesday patches for Windows 11, version 24H2 (KB5062553) that were made available yesterday. Customers are advised to install the most recent Patch Tuesday update to remove the problematic error report, but no other information is disclosed in the new Windows Release Health dashboard entry.
For those who want to know the specifics, every time the device was rebooted, the mistake was recorded as Event 2042. The message "More data is available" was added to the Config Read Failed listing. Since this erroneous error event did not affect any of the operating system's functions or processes, it was not a huge concern for users or IT administrators. However, Microsoft initially recognized this issue on July 2, so it's good to see the business implementing the solution quickly.
